Track project completion accurately
Divide completed items by the total number of items and multiply by 100. If 37 tasks are complete out of 50, progress is 74% and 13 tasks remain. If the total changes because new work is added, recalculate using the updated total.
Completion by item count assumes each item contributes equally. For projects in which tasks have different effort or importance, use the Weighted Percentage Calculator instead of treating every task as identical.
Using the result
Check that the values you enter use the same units and that the reference value matches the question you are trying to answer. Different percentage formulas can look similar while using different denominators, so choosing the right calculator matters.
